Northern Hideaway Outfitters

I hunted with Northern Hideaway Outfitters during the week of 8/25. I booked this hunt with the intent of enjoying a truly remote wilderness hunt. Curt Enck and his team delivered in every way. From the 87 mile drive from the nearest US town, rustic cabin, and meat and potato camp food I got everything I wanted and then some.
I arrived in camp Sunday afternoon, unpacked, shot a bit to check my equipment, and then had a hearty dinner and was briefed on the expectations and rules for the week. Curt included a series of trail camera photos for those of us that were new to bear hunting and expert tips on how to size a bear and minimize movement on the stand. Each morning I had an excellent camp breakfast followed by great muskie fishing on the Big Black river, followed by a huge lunch. Curt’s son Nate was excellent in giving bass fisherman transition pointers on how to catch these aggressive fish. I finished the week with 9 averaging 28-30”. On Wednesday afternoon's hunt I was lucky enough to have an opportunity on the fourth bear of the week I had seen. I ended up harvesting a 376lb boar that squared at 6’ 4”, a truly great Maine giant. I left camp a day early to rush back to the taxidermist, but when I left 9 of 11 hunters had taken bears, the majority of which were at or above Maine’s 150lb average. For a Maine bear experience that is truly remote, and breaks the commercial hunt stigma, I highly recommend giving Curt a call and booking a hunt with him and his crew. Thanks again to him, Bob, and Nate for helping me knock off an item from my hunting bucket list.
